Bringing a New Dog Home? Here’s How to Start Their Healthy Journey

Bringing a new dog into your home is an exciting adventure, but it’s also a big responsibility. Besides prepping your space with supplies and essentials, it’s important to set the stage for a calm, safe, and joyful introduction. At Earth Animal, we believe that the right start can help your four-legged family member live a truly healthy and vibrant life. Here are our tips to ensure a smooth transition and a healthy journey ahead.

Finding the Right Nutrition

Nutrition is the cornerstone of your pup’s physical health. At Earth Animal, we firmly believe that high-quality nutrition is key to vitality and longevity. That’s why Dr. Bob Goldstein formulated Wisdom Air-Dried Dog Food for all life stages—puppies, adults, and seniors alike.

Wisdom Air-Dried offers complete and balanced recipes, carefully crafted to ensure your dog’s optimum health. The ingredients are sourced from sustainable sources, and the air-drying process helps retain essential nutrients, giving your dog the very best nutrition.

Tip: Health starts with what’s in their bowl. When transitioning your new dog to their new food, we recommend slowly introducing Wisdom Air-Dried over 7-10 days for an easy, stress-free switch.

Creating a Healthy Routine

Whether you’ve adopted a puppy or an older dog, establishing a healthy routine will help your new dog feel secure and loved. Here are some essential supplies we recommend to make their transition smoother:

  • Natural dog training treats like Earth Animal Wisdom Jerky or No-Hide Chews. For rewarding and for supervised chewing use Earth Animal’s No-Hides.  We suggest never leaving a puppy alone with any chew or toy, always supervise, and make sure the size of the chews is accurate for the weight of your pup!  Take away any small pieces and always be around when you give anything to your puppy.
  • Non-plastic water and food bowls for safe, toxin-free eating and drinking.
  • Biodegradable waste bags and natural cleaning products to keep your home eco-friendly.
  • Interactive toys such as puzzle toys, and durable options like Kongs or West Paw toys that can be stuffed to keep their interest high.
  • A collar, harness, ID tag, and leash for safe walks and adventures.
  • A crate for comfort and security, and a cozy bed for restful naps.
  • Natural shampoo and appropriate grooming tools for a clean, shiny coat.

With the right supplies, and the right start, your new dog will feel right at home, and you’ll be set to begin a long, healthy, and happy journey together.

Dr. Bob & Susan Goldstein’s Protocols on Vaccination and Flea & Tick Protection

The following guidelines can be followed in an effort to minimize potential vaccine side effects. Common side effects include fever, loss of appetite and pain at the injection site.  More concerning side effects may be vomiting, diarrhea, itchy skin, swelling of the face & difficulty breathing. More serious complications reported have been collapse, seizures and tumor formation. You should always discuss these potential side effects with your veterinarian.

  1. Administer each vaccine with at least 3-4 weeks between injections. Try to avoid multiple disease combination vaccines such as 5 or 7 diseases in one injection. Discuss with your veterinarian the possibility of giving a one disease vaccine at a time. (Called mono valent vaccines).
  2. Avoid vaccinating your cat or dog when they are sickly and not feeling well. When your cat or dog is not well the vaccine could make them feel worse and cause a more serious health crisis.
  3. Vaccinate only for those diseases which are important in your geographical area. These are called the “core” vaccines and you should discuss these with your veterinarian.
  4. Dr. Bob and Susan also recommend using a homeopathic remedy that helps to reduce the side effects of the vaccine(s). Dr. Bob and Susan recommend using Adored Beast Rebalancer – Rebalancer assists to minimize associated vaccine side effects without removing any vaccine benefits.  Other options are the homeopathic remedies Thuja occidentalis (30C) or Lyssin (30C), given once daily for 5 days after the vaccination.
  5. Avoid automatic vaccines. Discuss with your veterinarian performing a blood test called a Titer Test. The Titer test indicates if your cat or dog has retained enough antibodies from previous vaccinations for protection. If the test shows the right level of antibodies, you should be able to skip the vaccine as your dog or cat still has protection.

To learn more on how to properly vaccinate please watch this video from a 2019 interview by Dr. Karen Becker with Dr. Ronald Schultz. Dr. Schultz is a world-renowned veterinary immunologist and was a professor at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) School of Veterinary Medicine.

State Laws on mandatory vaccinations vary from state to state. Be sure to familiarize yourself with your states requirements and consult your veterinarian on vaccine protocols.

If you do not have a family veterinarian or are looking for an integrative veterinarian in your area, please contact our Customer Experience Team at 855-326-4625 or email us at [email protected].  Earth Animal is happy to assist you.

Lastly, when it comes to flea and tick prevention, we recommend using natural flea and tick products instead of insecticide or pesticide-based treatments. Side-effect-free is our motto for healthy dogs!
