We are very proud to share that we have recently achieved Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) status — a corporate structure that means that we have to live the values that have been our foundation since Day One.
PBC charters consider people and the planet — as well as profit — in their business model and operations, incorporating stakeholders like their employees and community as beneficiaries.
For Earth Animal, achieving the PBC classification is a way to advance our core values and demonstrate our commitment to transparency, excellence, and integrity. Public benefit corporations delineate a specific benefit purpose and must conduct rigorous reporting on its ongoing efforts, progress, and wider impact. With this formal distinction, we will officially and publicly balance shareholder interests with environmental, social, and governance performance.
“We are thrilled to officially be a certified Public Benefit Corporation,” said Earth Animal CEO Stewart Shanley. “As a company, we have long operated in accordance with these values. PBC status is a way to recognize that as a brand, we are abiding by our purpose and accomplishing the goals we set out to achieve.”
Obtaining Public Benefit Corporation status is a crucial step toward our forthcoming B Corp Certification, which has been a long-standing goal of the company.
Currently, we are one of the only pet product companies able to claim PBC status. This is our most recent recognition that we want to change the landscape of holistic, humane, and sustainably sourced pet products and set ourselves apart from our competitors. From off-setting our carbon footprint to our production facility’s Safe Quality Food certification to our ICON membership status in the Pet Sustainability Coalition, Earth Animal is ensuring that we not only talk about our values but live them as well.
