Turning the Tide on plastics
Today, we are 98% of our goal towards our commitment to transition 100% of our packaging to recyclable, reusable, or compostable by the end of 2025. In addition, all our displays, collateral, and signage are made with sustainable, recyclable, or FSC-certified materials.
As we work towards that goal, we’re taking action today by being certified plastic neutral with rePurpose Global. Through our partnership, we are removing as much plastic from nature as we use in our business. Sniffing Out Our Emissions
We have completed Scope 1 & 2 Green House Gas Accounting since 2021 and created targeted improvement plans. Compared to 2023, in 2024, we decreased absolute emissions by 9.3%. And we started to measure our Scope 3 Green House Gas emissions in categories 3.4: Upstream transportation and distribution (non-US), 3.6: Business Travel, and 3.7: Employee Commuting.
In 2024, we offset 100% of scopes 1 & 2, and scopes 3.6 & 3.7 in partnership with Native Energy. This equals 357 carbon tons. Native Energy is a Certified B Corporation™ with a goal to avoid or sequester 100 million tons of greenhouse gases by the end of the 2025. Our HelpBuild™ Carbon Offset support project is From Waste to Fuel: Improving Agriculture and Livelihoods in Uganda. Each year, the emissions we offset are roughly equivalent to the emissions reduced by 37 biodigester units in the project for approximately one year (1 biodigester unit is usually used by 1 family).
Driving Industry Progress
To help our industry minimize the impacts of our packaging, we are active members of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and work with the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) to help us identify plastic alternatives. In addition, we worked on Flex Forward, an in-store packaging take back pilot program in 2020-2021 with PSC and our distributor partner, Pet Food Experts. PSC is in the feasibility stage of this program with the hope of expanding regions in the future.
