It’s the holiday season, and we are reminded that even though the world hasn’t returned completely to a pre-pandemic normal, many of the stressors of the holidays are back: extra-long to-do lists, crowded stores, traffic, lines, limited supplies, and not enough time to get everything done. Some of us feel pressure to make the holidays a perfect display of food, décor, and presents, and that can make the holidays feel stressful or overwhelming.
This time of year, we try to remind ourselves to slow down and reflect on our reasons for celebrating during the holiday season. Like us, you are probably grateful for the beings in your life – your family, your friends, your four-legged buddies – who make every day more meaningful, and who bring you joy.
These are the ones you can rely on to be with you through all of life’s journeys, who make the good times great and the bad times better. The ones who don’t care what your table looks like, as long as you’re at it with them. The dogs who will happily help you finish off your food and then snuggle up with you on the couch, who are grateful every day just to go on your walk. The cats who might help you with your Christmas tree decorating, or whose purring on your lap makes the perfect holiday song.
This holiday season, don’t worry about the details of your decorations or whether or not you’ve spent enough money or and just the right gift. We can all choose gratitude by turning our attention to the simple things: spending time together with loved ones and sharing the joy that comes from having a grateful heart.
