The most important thing you put on your pet shouldn't be a pesticide.

Dr. Bob Goldstein's Nature's Protection is a two-step herbal ritual for dogs and cats. Flea & tick protection that works from the inside out, is free from synthetic pesticides, and designed for daily use.

This isn’t optional.
It’s essential.

Fleas and ticks are more than a nuisance. They are carriers for some of the most serious diseases your dog or cat can encounter, and in many cases, the diseases they carry can transfer to your family too.

The risk is real and consistent. Protection isn’t something to start when you see a flea. It’s something to maintain before you do.

What fleas can cause:

  • Flea allergy dermatitis, the most common skin condition in dogs and cats, triggered by a single flea bite in sensitive animals.
  • Tapeworm infection, transmitted when a pet swallows an infected flea during grooming.
  • Bartonella, a bacterial infection spread by flea dirt that can affect both pets and humans.
  • Severe anaemia in young, elderly, or small animals from sustained flea infestation.

What ticks can cause:

  • Lyme disease, one of the most widespread tick-borne illnesses in the US, causing joint pain, fever, and in advanced cases, serious kidney and neurological damage.
  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, a potentially fatal bacterial infection found across the continental US.
  • Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis, bacterial infections that can cause fever, lethargy, and bleeding disorders.
  • Babesiosis, a parasitic infection that destroys red blood cells.
  • Alpha-gal syndrome, a tick-triggered allergy to red meat that can affect humans who handle infected pets.

Finding a tick doesn't have to be a crisis. Knowing what to do next is what matters.

Ticks need to be removed promptly and correctly. The longer a tick remains attached, the higher the risk of disease transmission. For most tick-borne illnesses, transmission risk increases significantly after 24 to 48 hours of attachment.

How to remove a tick safely:

  • Use fine-tipped tweezers or a dedicated tick removal tool.
  • Grip the tick as close to the skin's surface as possible.
  • Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Do not twist or jerk, as this can cause the mouthparts to break off and remain in the skin.
  • Do not crush the tick with your fingers.
  • Do not apply petroleum jelly, nail polish, or heat — these are ineffective and can increase transmission risk.
  • Clean the bite area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or soap and water.
1

Keep the Tick.

Seal it in a bag with a damp tissue, note the date, and hold onto it. If symptoms develop, it can be tested to guide diagnosis.

2

Know what to look for.

In humans, watch for a bull's-eye rash and flu-like symptoms within thirty days of the bite. In dogs and cats, lethargy, lameness, fever, or unusual neurological signs.

3

Don't wait to get help.

Any symptoms after a tick bite, in you or your pet, are worth a call to your doctor or vet. Early treatment makes a significant difference.

A different way to think about flea and tick protection.

For more than 45 years, veterinarian Dr. Bob Goldstein has worked from a simple belief: the body of the animals we love should never be used as a delivery system for chemicals designed to kill fleas and ticks.  Nature’s Protection was built on a different answer. A two-step herbal system, formulated to work with your dog or cat's biology rather than against it. No synthetic pesticides. No neurotoxic ingredients. Just consistent, natural protection from the inside out.

What's in most traditionally recommended products. What you'll never find in ours.

The active ingredients in the majority of conventionally recommended flea and tick products are neurotoxins. They work by attacking the nervous system of fleas and ticks, causing paralysis and death. They are effective. They are also powerful chemicals with documented risks that extend well beyond the pest they're designed to kill.

None of these. ever.
Isoxazolines Insecticides required by the FDA that carry warnings for potential neurological events for dogs and cats, including tremors and seizures.
Fipronil A pesticide the EPA classifies as a possible human carcinogen and highly toxic to bees and aquatic life.
Imidacloprid A neonicotinoid insecticide restricted in the EU because of risks to pollinators.
Permethrin A synthetic insecticide known to be highly toxic to cats.
Tetrachlorvinphos (TCVP) An insecticide used in some flea collars and classified by the EPA as a probable human carcinogen
The transfer problem

These chemicals don't stay on your pet. Topical treatments transfer to hands, furniture, bedding, and carpets. Children who pet treated animals, or sleep near them, are exposed. Pets who swim or are bathed shortly after treatment carry residues into waterways, where the impact on aquatic ecosystems is well documented.

None of these ingredients have a place in Dr. Bob Goldstein’s Nature's Protection. Not one.

We created Nature’s Protection because health should never harm

— Dr. Bob Goldstein

Effective. Gentle. Built differently.

Herbal flea and tick protection works on a fundamentally different principle. Rather than poisoning the pest on contact, it works by making your pet a less attractive host in the first place.

The mechanism is scent. Fleas and ticks locate hosts through a combination of heat, carbon dioxide, and scent. Certain herbal compounds, when introduced consistently through diet and applied externally, alter the natural scent profile of your pet at a biological level. Fleas and ticks, finding the scent signals they follow absent or disrupted, move on.

This approach has a strong foundation in botanical science. Ingredients including neem, yarrow, black pepper, and essential oils of eucalyptus, cedarwood, and citronella have documented repellent properties. Clinical studies support their efficacy as part of a consistent, layered regimen.

The key word is consistent. Herbal protection is not a single chemical event. It is a daily practice.

It starts with scent, not chemicals.

Nature’s Protection is designed to replace traditional flea & tick products in two simple steps: Start from within with internal prevention, then add a layer of external protection that fits their life.

STEP 1: INSIDE

Internal Prevention

Taken daily, the internal powder and drops work with your dog or cat’s biology to gradually shift the scent signals that fleas and ticks follow. No toxins. No overrides. Just quiet, consistent prevention building from within.

  • Works from the first day
  • Builds over time with consistent use
  • Supports natural biology rather than disrupting it

STEP 2: EXTERNAL

External Protection

The herbal collar or spot-on completes the picture on the outside. Working alongside Step 1, it adds a layer of botanical protection that covers what the inside can't reach.

Thoughtfully selected, natural ingredients

Nature’s Protection uses carefully selected ingredients, essential herbs and oils such as peppermint, rosemary, cedarwood, and lemongrass.

Garlic gets a bad reputation and is often misunderstood. In carefully measured amounts, garlic has a long history of safe use in veterinary herbal practice. Under Dr. Bob Goldstein’s guidance, properly dosed garlic is included as part of a balanced internal formula to support the body’s natural defenses and help create a scent pests avoid.

Every ingredient is chosen with intention. Nothing added without purpose.

Everything you need. In the right order.

Your Questions, Answered

You ask and we answer! FAQs about Nature's Protection.

Do herbal flea & tick products really work?

Yes, when used consistently and as a complete system. Nature’s Protection works differently than chemical pesticides. Instead of using neurotoxins to kill pests, it helps make your dog or cat less appealing to fleas and ticks, inside and out. Why pet parents choose it:

  • No harsh pesticides or neurotoxins
  • Works with your dog’s body, not against it
  • Supports skin, coat, and supports the immune system

How to get results: Use daily internal support (powders or drops) + external protection (collar or spot-on, and add additional layers of spray or shampoo if desired). Together, they create a complete system.

What to expect:

  • Fewer fleas and ticks over time
  • Results that build with consistent daily use
  • In heavy pest areas, occasional pests may still appear, but are less likely to stay

Used the right way, every day, this system works, backed by over 45 years of trusted use. And the best part: it’s not just effective, it’s genuinely good for your dog or cat.

How do herbal flea & tick products work?

Nature’s Protection works through a simple, two-step system, support the animal, then protect from the outside. Step 1: Internal Support Daily powders or drops work from within, helping to shift your dog or cat’s natural skin chemistry and scent over time, making them less appealing to fleas, ticks, and biting insects. Formulated with nutrient-rich ingredients like brewer’s yeast, garlic, B vitamins, and targeted herbs, this step builds the foundation. Step 2: External Protection Collars, sprays, spot-ons, and shampoos create a powerful added layer on the coat using essential oils like cedarwood, peppermint, lemongrass, and rosemary, helping to repel pests on contact. Why both steps matter: Internal support builds over time. External protection works immediately. Together, they create a complete, layered system. Backed by decades of veterinary practice: when you support the animal naturally, their body does what it was designed to do.

What is the two-step protection system?

Nature’s Protection is designed as a comprehensive, two-step system, support the animal nutritionally from within, and protect from the outside. Step 1: Internal Support (Daily Foundation) Feed daily with meals to build protection from the inside out. Choose one of our powders as your daily foundation:

  • Daily Internal Powder – A blend of brewer’s yeast, vitamins, and minerals that helps shift skin chemistry over time
  • Daily Herbal Internal Powder (Yeast-Free Alternative) – A veterinary blend of herbs for dogs and cats who prefer or require a yeast-free option

Add Daily Herbal Drops:

  • Daily Herbal Drops, A highly absorbable herbal tincture used to enhance the effectiveness of the powders, or for dogs and cats who won’t eat powders

Step 2: External Protection (Added Layer) Add external protection to complement internal support and create a powerful barrier on the skin and coat that helps repel pests on contact.

  • Herbal Collars – Continuous support for up to 3 months using essential oils
  • Herbal Spot-On – If not using the collar, use as an easy topical application for ongoing protection
  • Herbal Bug Spray – Immediate, on-the-go protection
  • Herbal Shampoo – Cleanses while supporting protection during bath time

Best results: Use one internal powder daily as your foundation. Add drops when needed for an extra layer of internal support. Add external protection consistently to complete the system. Not sure where to start? Try our Ritual Builder or reach out to us.

Why choose natural flea & tick protection over chemical pesticides?

Because protection shouldn’t come at the expense of your animal’s health. Conventional flea and tick products rely on pesticides that circulate through your dog or cat’s body. Nature’s Protection takes a different approach: support the animal, not fight against it. Why pet parents make the switch:

  • No harsh pesticides or neurotoxins
  • Works with your dog or cat’s body, not against it
  • Beneficial for daily, long-term use as part of a consistent routine

Better for your home:

  • No heavy chemical residues on hands, bedding, or furniture
  • Clean, thoughtfully selected ingredients with a naturally fresh scent

Built on trust:

  • Developed by veterinarian Dr. Bob Goldstein
  • Made with carefully selected ingredients
  • Backed by decades of real-world use

What to understand: This is a daily system, not a one-time treatment. Used consistently, it works by making your dog or cat less appealing to pests over time, without harm or compromising their wellbeing.

What Nature's Protection products do I need for my dog?

Start simple. Think inside + outside. That’s it. Protection works best when you support your dog from within and on the surface, because fleas and ticks don’t rely on just one pathway, and neither should we. Step 1: Choose ONE daily internal This is your foundation. It works over time, supporting your dog or cat from the inside out.

  • Daily Internal Powder — simple, effective, everyday support
  • Daily Herbal Internal Powder (yeast-free, plant-based alternative)
  • Herbal Drops — easy-to-use liquid for picky eaters

Pick one. Use it daily. Stay consistent. Step 2: Add ONE external This is your immediate, on-the-surface layer, working in real time. (Choose between Collar or Spot-On)

  • Herbal Collar — effortless, long-lasting (3 months)
  • Herbal Spot-On — monthly, no collar needed
  • Herbal Bug Spray — before hikes, walks, outdoor time
  • Herbal Shampoo — added support during bath time

Pick what fits your lifestyle. If you want the simplest place to start: Choose our Daily Internal Powder + Herbal Collar Two steps. One daily ritual. A quick note on sizing (for collars & spot-ons):

  • Small: up to 20 lbs
  • Medium: 21–50 lbs
  • Large: 51+ lbs

Because better protection isn’t about more products. It’s about the right ones, working together.

What Nature's Protection products do I need for my cat?

Cats are naturally more selective, so a simple, consistent approach works best. Internal (choose one daily):

  • Daily Internal Powder or Daily Herbal Internal Powder – Mix into food (preferably wet food); well-accepted by most cats when introduced gradually
  • Daily Herbal Drops – A liquid option that can be added to food or water; ideal for cats who won’t eat powders

External (add for complete protection): Choose one for extra protection:

Important for cats:

  • Herbal Bug Spray is for dogs only, do not use on cats
  • Always choose cat-specific products, as cats process essential oils differently

Our recommendation for most cats: Daily Internal Powder + Herbal Collar = simple, effective protection A note on feeding: Cats can be finicky. Start with a very small amount of powder and mix thoroughly into food, gradually increasing over several days for best acceptance. Even indoor cats benefit, pests can easily be brought in on shoes, clothing, or other animals.

When should I start using flea & tick protection?

Why Starting Early Matters Our internal powders are designed to build over time. The longer your dog or cat is on them, the more consistent the scent becomes—helping make them less appealing to pests, day after day. But that’s only part of the story. These formulas are packed with nutrient-dense ingredients that support overall health, skin, coat, and immune function. Think of it as daily protection + daily nutrition in one simple step. A Daily Ritual, This isn’t a quick fix. It’s a routine that works with your dog or cat over time.

  • If you are new to our program; Start 4-6 weeks before peak flea and tick season
  • Stay consistent for best results
  • Prevention is always easier than dealing with an infestation

Year-Round vs. Seasonal Use Warmer climates: Fleas and ticks don’t take a break. Use year-round. Seasonal climates: Start early in spring, and once they are on it — stay on it for optimal prevention. Seasons are longer than they used to be. For Puppies & Kittens Safe to start at 16 weeks and older, gradually introduce and build up to dosage, once fully weaned and eating solid food.

The longer you use it, the better it works. And along the way, you’re supporting something bigger: A healthier, stronger dog or cat, every single day. General guidelines: Year-round areas (Southern US, coastal regions): Use protection continuously, fleas and ticks are active all year.

Seasonal areas (Northern US): Start internal products 2-4 weeks before flea and tick season typically begins in your area (often early spring). Add external products as temperatures warm.

Local tip: Check with your veterinarian or local extension office for peak flea and tick season in your specific area. Climate change has extended the season in many regions. For new puppies and kittens: You can start Nature's Protection at 16 weeks or older, as soon as they're weaned and eating solid food. Early protection builds good habits and keeps them comfortable from the start.

How long does it take to see results?

Results build with consistency, and improve over time. External protection (immediate): Collars, spot-ons, sprays and shampoo begin working as soon as applied, helping to repel pests right away. Internal support (builds over time): Internal powders and drops work from within and require consistent daily use to fully take effect. Most pet parents begin to notice a difference within a few weeks. What matters most: consistency. For best results, internal powders should be given daily, year-round. The longer you stay consistent, the more effective the system becomes. The longer your dog or cat stays on the powders and drops, the more their natural scent shifts, making them increasingly less appealing to fleas, ticks, and biting insects. Why the system works: External products provide immediate support. Internal products build lasting protection. Together, they create a layered approach that strengthens over time. What “working” looks like:

  • Fewer fleas and ticks
  • Pests less likely to stay or bite
  • Less scratching and irritation

Start early, stay consistent, and use year-round—that’s what drives real results.
