Transition Tips

Add a small amount of Wisdom Cat Food to your pet’s meals while decreasing the amount of current food over the course of 7 days.

Cats often need more time than dogs. If your cat is moving from dry food to wet food, hold at each ratio a little longer before increasing. Go at the pace your cat is comfortable with.

Three things that help:

Serve the food at room temperature or slightly warmed by setting the dish in a bowl of hot water for a minute, which releases the aroma cats evaluate first.
Start very small, even a teaspoon mixed into existing food is enough in the first few days.
Try a different recipe if there is resistance, because a cat who refuses one protein often accepts another immediately.

What is paté cat food?

Paté keeps things simple.

It’s wet cat food made from finely ground meat or fish, with a smooth, uniform texture from the first bite to the last. No chunks. No shreds. No pieces floating in gravy. Just a soft, consistent texture that holds its shape in the bowl.

Not all wet food eats the same.

Paté is finely ground and consistent throughout. Shreds and flakes have visible pieces of meat, usually served in sauce or gravy. Gravy-style foods have more liquid and a thinner consistency. Different textures for different cats.

It starts with how cats are built to eat.

Cats are obligate carnivores. That’s why every Wisdom recipe begins with high-quality animal proteins including nutrient-rich organs. Organs aren’t an afterthought as they provide naturally occurring amino acids, vitamins and minerals that are important for complete, balanced feline nutrition.

We build from there with purposeful ingredients chosen for their benefits: taurine for heart and eye health, Marine Microalgae Oil for Omega-3s DHA & EPA, functional fiber and TruMune® postbiotics for digestive and microbiome support, plus moisture-rich vegetable broth for daily hydration.

Hydration matters, too.

Cats naturally have a low thirst drive and may not always drink enough water on their own. The moisture in every box of Wisdom can help support daily hydration and healthy kidney function throughout their lives.

How much Wisdom Homestyle Paté should I feed my cat?

There’s no one-size-fits-all bowl.

Wisdom Homestyle Paté comes in a 5.5 oz recyclable box. How much your cat needs depends on their size, age, activity level and metabolism. Start with our feeding guidelines, then adjust based on your cat.

Adult cats: About 1 box (5.5 oz) per 6–8 lbs of body weight per day.
Kittens: Growing takes fuel. Feed up to 2x the adult amount per day.
Pregnant or nursing cats: Feed up to 3x the adult amount per day.

Watch your cat, not just the measuring cup.

Body condition, activity level and weight can help you determine how much they need. Adjust their daily amount as their needs change.

New to Wisdom? Go slowly.

Introduce Wisdom gradually, starting with a small amount mixed into their current food and increasing it over time. We recommend increasing the amount of Wisdom gradually over about 7 days, taking up to 10 days if your cat needs more time. Cats can be naturally cautious about something new in their bowl, so a little patience goes a long way.

For the most accurate feeding guidance, always check the guidelines on your Wisdom package. And if you’re unsure how much is right for your cat, consult your veterinarian.

How do I transition my cat to Wisdom?

Slow is good. Especially with cats.

Start by adding a small amount of Wisdom to your cat’s current food while gradually decreasing the amount of their current food over about 7 days. Some cats take longer, and stretching this to 10 days is completely fine.

Cats often need more time than dogs. And if your cat is making the bigger move from dry food to wet food, stay at each step a little longer before increasing the amount of Wisdom. Follow their pace, not the calendar.

A few things can help:

Warm it up a little.

Set the dish in a bowl of warm water for a minute or two before serving. Cats investigate food with their nose first, and a little warmth helps release the natural aromas.

Start smaller than you think.

Even a teaspoon of Wisdom mixed into their current food is enough for the first few days. Familiarity comes before the full bowl.

Try another recipe or rotate recipes.

Cats have strong protein preferences. A cat who walks away from one recipe may happily eat another, so don’t be afraid to change it up.

And remember: taking their time isn’t the same as saying no. They’re being cats. Give them the space to sniff, investigate and get comfortable with something new.

Start small. Go slowly. Let your cat lead the way.

Will this help my cat’s sensitive stomach or occasional vomiting?

Does my cat still need to drink water on wet food?

Yes. Fresh water, always.

But don’t be surprised if your cat drinks less once they’re eating wet food. They’re simply getting more of their daily hydration from their food.

Cats were built to get moisture from what they eat.

Cats evolved as desert animals with a naturally low thirst drive. In the wild, much of their hydration came from prey rather than a separate water source. That instinct is still very much a part of the cats sharing our homes today.

With dry food, cats may not always make up for the lack of moisture by drinking enough water on their own. That’s one reason moisture-rich food can be an important part of feline nutrition.

Wisdom Homestyle Paté provides up to 78% moisture in every serving, with vegetable broth adding hydration right into their bowl. As a result, many cats naturally drink less water when eating wet food because they’re already getting more moisture with every meal.
